Why silence removal changes a video
Unscripted speech is mostly pauses — gathering a thought, restarting a sentence, reaching for a word. Cutting those gaps is the single edit that most improves pacing, and it is entirely mechanical, which is why it is worth automating rather than doing by hand on a timeline.
Tuning the threshold
The threshold decides what counts as silence. Set it too aggressively and you clip the start of words or remove natural breathing room; too gently and the pauses survive. Room tone matters here — a noisy room needs a higher threshold than a treated one.
