How phase cancellation works
In most stereo mixes the lead vocal sits dead centre, identical in both channels, while instruments are spread across the stereo field. Subtracting one channel from the other cancels whatever is perfectly centred — usually the vocal — and leaves the wider material behind.
What to expect from the result
Results depend heavily on the mix. A cleanly produced stereo track with a centred vocal separates well. Mono recordings, heavily processed vocals, and tracks with centred bass or kick drum will carry artefacts, since those elements cancel too.
How to use it
- Load your track. Open the Vocal Separator and select an audio or video file.
- Choose what to isolate. Select whether you want the instrumental bed or the centred vocal.
- Export the result. Render locally and download the separated audio.
Frequently asked questions
Will it perfectly remove the vocals?
Phase cancellation is a fast approximation, not a trained separation model. Well-mixed stereo tracks work best; expect artefacts on mono or heavily processed material.
Does it work on any song?
It needs a true stereo file with a centred vocal. A mono file has no channel difference to exploit.
Is my music uploaded?
No. Processing happens in your browser on your own device.
