The aspect ratios that matter
Vertical 9:16 fills the screen on TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Square 1:1 was built for feed scrolling and still performs well there. Landscape 16:9 remains the format for YouTube and anything watched on a desktop.

Blurred backdrop versus hard crop
A hard crop to vertical throws away the sides of the frame, which is fine for a centred subject and destructive for anything else. Padding the original inside a blurred, enlarged copy of itself keeps the entire frame visible while still filling a vertical screen.
How to use it

Frequently asked questions
Will resizing cut off part of my video?
A hard crop does. Choosing the blurred-backdrop option keeps the whole original frame visible inside the new aspect ratio instead.
What resolution should I export at?
1080x1920 is the standard for vertical platforms and 1080x1080 for square. Higher resolutions mostly add file size without visible benefit on a phone.
