What speed changes are actually for
Speeding footage up is mostly a pacing tool. A tutorial where someone types for forty seconds becomes watchable at 2x; a long process becomes a timelapse at 8x or more. Slowing down is an inspection and emphasis tool: catching the moment something goes wrong, or holding on a detail long enough for the viewer to register it.
Why slow motion looks smooth or stuttery
Slowing footage down cannot create frames that were never captured. A 30fps clip played at half speed has only 15 real frames per second of motion to work with, which reads as a stutter. Footage shot at a high frame rate specifically for the purpose, 60fps or higher, has the extra frames to spend and stays smooth.
Keeping the audio usable
Naive speed changes shift pitch along with tempo, which is the chipmunk effect. MediaVault preserves pitch while changing tempo, so sped-up narration stays recognisably the same voice. Beyond roughly 2x, speech becomes hard to follow regardless of pitch correction, which is the point to consider dropping the audio entirely.

Will speeding up my video make the audio sound high-pitched?
No. Pitch is preserved while tempo changes, so the voice stays natural rather than turning into a chipmunk.
Why does my slow motion look choppy?
The source did not capture enough frames. Slowing 30fps footage leaves too few real frames per second, which reads as stutter. Shooting at 60fps or higher fixes it at the source.
How fast can I speed a video up?
There is no hard cap, but speech becomes difficult to follow past about 2x. For timelapses, where audio is usually dropped anyway, much higher multipliers work fine.
